Blind from bad vision? Orange County woman losing her job as well as sight during pandemic

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orange County woman has learned she isn't just losing her job in this pandemic — she's also losing her sight.

Laura Foster, a 31-year-old mother from Apopka, said her friends are rallying to help her pay for surgery to save her sight.

Now she hopes her case can bring awareness to a condition her doctor said could have been caught years earlier.

“I’ve never thought in a million years that I could go blind just from having bad vision,” Foster said.

Orlando cornea specialist and surgeon Dr. Kelly Herschel said Foster’s condition, called keratoconus, if caught early can be swiftly treated. But, he said, it’s often missed.

“I see some of these patients at 31 when I should have seen them at 10,” he said.
