ORLANDO, Fla. — If there’s one thing you can count on every Tuesday in the drive-thru lane at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, it’s that it will be festive and feature everything from stilt walkers to live music.
For nearly a year, weekly food distribution at the Orlando church has helped the thousands in Central Florida’s arts community who are struggling and without steady work.
The Supporting Hearts Initiative is where the thousands without work in Central Florida’s arts and entertainment communities pick up much more than prepped meals and bread.
“We’ve got actors, we’ve got musicians, we’ve got stunt performers, you name it,” said Steve Mackinnon, St Luke’s artistic director. “We’ve got so much entertainment on the street. As people wait in line, they come through and just try to give them a glimmer of joy.”
