‘My son’s window was shot’: Apopka mother says someone shot at her car while merging onto SR 429

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Apopka woman told Channel 9 that someone shot at her car Monday while she was merging onto State Road 429 from Florida’s Turnpike.

Ashley Barrett said she heard a loud noise and immediately turned around to check on her two small children.

"The sound of a rock hitting my windshield -- I've heard that before, and it was never that loud," she said. "I turned around and realized my son's window was shot at, and my son was in the back seat."

Barrett said she called 911 and an Orange County deputy wrote a report.

"She did think it was an air rifle," Barrett said.

Tint film was all that held the shards of glass together.

"It's broken," she said. "The car can be fixed, but my children are irreplaceable."
