Orange County deputy fired over conflicting reports another deputy pulled gun on him, records show

ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orange County deputy said another deputy pulled a gun on him, but he claims coming forward about this incident meant he was fired instead.

The sheriff’s office said he changed his story but lied under oath.

After almost a yearlong fight, both sides presented their case to the appeals board.

The union said this investigation was biased and full of issues.

Jacob Stewart said he reported another deputy, but that the investigators went after him instead.

The deputy admits his story changed on just one detail of the incident.

Stewart said it was not intentional. He just didn’t exactly remember.

He said they went after him for coming forward.

Investigators said they weren’t after anything but the truth.

Stewart said that he was driving a patrol car when his training officer got mad about his driving and snapped.

Stewart said that the training officer then pulled a gun on him and threatened to kill him.

It is an accusation that, if investigators could prove, could mean criminal charges for that other deputy.

But the Orange County Sheriff’s Office investigators said after two interviews, they determined his original story wasn’t true.

Stewart defended himself, saying he was in fear for his life, and the incident did happen, even if details about the gun and if it was pointed at him or not changed.

But the sheriff’s office saw it differently and charged him with untruthfulness, a career-ending decision.

The fraternal order of police is questioning the investigation, saying it was riddled with coercion on a new deputy.
