Orange County teen accused of shooting 16-year-old in face to be charged as an adult

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orange County 17-year-old accused of shooting a 16-year-old in the face last month is being charged as an adult.

Deputies said Daryl Schofield Jr., 17, shot a 16-year-old in the face after an argument over a girl.

The shooting happened on Postell Avenue in Oakland, and just days ago, the case was transferred to adult court, which means Schofield is now in the Orange County Jail.

Police said Schofield tried to use an Uber as a getaway car.

According to court documents, the Uber driver “jumped out of the vehicle with his hands in the air.”

Johnny Ogando told deputies he was on the way to pick up Schofield when “he got a phone call telling him he needed to change the pickup location.”

When Schofield got into the car, Ogando said he thought he saw a gun sticking out of Schofield’s pocket.

Ogando said Schofield “began to tell him to hurry and go faster.”

As Ogando started to drive away, he said he saw the flashing lights of police vehicles and felt safer flagging them down.

Schofield was taken to the Orange County Juvenile Detention Center, where an 11-year-old eyewitness identified him in a lineup.
