Orange County temporally bans some fertilizers to improve water quality

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — There are new rules for Orange County residents who like to work in their yard or garden.

The county has temporarily banned fertilizers with nitrogen through September.

A ban on fertilizers with phosphorus is also in place through the end of the year.

“This ordinance is one of many steps in the right direction to keep pollutants out of our waterbodies,” said Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings.

The county passed those restrictions with the goal of improving water quality and preventing algal blooms.
