ORLANDO, Fla. — Even though all of Central Florida’s major theme parks are back open, the community that depends so much on tourism is still struggling to bring people back.
In response, Visit Orlando has unveiled a new campaign called Off to Orlando, which gives Florida residents incentive to drive to The City Beautiful and explore the more natural side of the region.
VisitOrlando said Tuesday that travelers are looking for outdoor, natural attractions rather than theme parks, so it’s pushing to promote the area’s boat rides, lake activities, resort pools and water parks.
In April, hotel occupancy dropped to a record low of about 12%, but has since bounced back up to 30%, but far from the 85% we had In February.
To entice visitors, the average daily rate of a hotel is about $80. That’s nearly $100 discount from the beginning of the year.
