West Orange High students return to classrooms after campus shutdown due to COVID-19

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Students at West Orange High School returned to campus Thursday for the first time in nearly two weeks after at least 10 positive COVID-19 cases caused the school to switch to virtual learning.

The school district had cleaning crews hard at work wiping, spraying and mopping for days, getting ready for the school’s reopening.

“We’re looking to disinfect the school from all high touch points,” Kelvin Ballinger, director of custodial services, said.

The school was originally scheduled to reopen Monday, Oct. 5, but the district now feels confident it can reopen Thursday.

“We are trying to make sure by every way possible that we can protect this school,” Ballinger said.
