Orange, Flagler Counties order mandatory evacuations

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — In preparation for Hurricane Irma’s arrival, Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs is ordering residents living in mobile homes to evacuate them.

Officials said they made the order because mobile homes are at a particularly high risk for storm-related damage.

Those who live in mobile homes are expected to make final preparations and plans to seek shelter before Sunday morning, when Hurricane Irma is expected to arrive.

Orange County Fire Rescue personnel are going door-to-door in various communities to issue the evacuation notice.

Orange County shelters open Saturday at 9 a.m.

Residents with special medical needs who require transportation assistance to a shelter can contact 311 (or 407-836-3111) for additional information and support.

Flagler County

Flagler County officials have also ordered a mandatory evacuation for everyone east of the intra-coastal and the area around dead lake, effective 7 a.m. Saturday.

The mandatory evacuation has been ordered for Zones A and F—as well as for any other low-lying areas subject to flooding, people who live in mobile homes and those with special medical needs.

Zone A includes everything east of the Intra-coastal, including Marineland, Hammock and Flagler Beach along A1A.

Zone F includes the part of western Flagler County near Dead Lake.

“We are requiring people to get out of harm’s way, which means going to a shelter at this point,” Flagler County Public Safety Emergency Manager Steve Garten said.

“We are asking people to remain within the county if they haven’t already left for some other destination, both because of traffic conditions and uncertain weather conditions,” he said.
