• Orlando crash injures officers, closes busy intersection


    ORLANDO, Fla. - Two Orlando Police officers were injured Sunday evening in a car crash at the intersection of John Young Parkway and Colonial Drive.

    The collsion happened around 5 o'clock.

    An Orlando Police Department spokesperson told Eyewitness News the officers were responding to an emergency call with their patrol car's lights and sirens activated.

    They were driving south on John Young Parkway when their cruiser collided with a white truck that was traveling east on Colonial Drive.

    Both officers suffered cuts and bruises and were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center to be treated.

    The driver of the truck was taken to Florida Hospital South in Orlando, also to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

    The normally busy intersection was shut down for nearly two hours while OPD investigated the incident and cleaned up the crash site.

    Charges are pending against the driver the of truck.

    Orlando Police could not advise Eyewitness News as to the nature of the emergency to which the officers were responding at the time of the crash.
