Orlando man charged with girlfriend's fatal stabbing

PINE HILLS, Fla. — Police have arrested an Orlando man Saturday a day after his girlfriend was found stabbed to death in a house near Mercy and West Colonial drives.

Robinson Hedghill, 49, was arrested at the intersection of W. Washington Street and Coburn Avenue Saturday.

He was charged with second-degree murder and false imprisonment in the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend, 42-year-old Yadira Smith.

Smith was found dead with stab wounds inside of a home in the Parkview community Friday afternoon.

Police say she recently moved to the Orlando area from New York.

Her neighbors said the woman had two children living with her, and they had just seen her taking the children to school Friday morning.

Neighbors said the woman has two other sons in New York who were planning to move down in the coming months.
