• Ormond Beach woman arrested, accused of operating grow house with children present


    ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - An Ormond Beach woman was arrested on drug charges and child abuse charges Sunday, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

    Tara Heddy, 24, was arrested after Ormond Beach police found her in a house where marijuana was being grown, according to deputies. Deputies said two children, ages 4 and 5, were in the home.

    Investigators said Ormond Beach police officers responded to reports of a suspicious incident at the Lincoln Avenue house where they reportedly found a marijuana growing operation.

    Sheriff's investigators said 26 marijuana plants and 105 grams of harvested marijuana were found, along with equipment used to grow the plants.

    Deputies said Heddy admitted to knowing about the marijuana growing operation but said her boyfriend was responsible for it.

    Heddy was charged with of cultivation of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school, child abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia.

    Investigators are searching for Heddy's boyfriend and said they are prepared to file criminal charges against him.
