Jill Biden, Fauci visit Central Florida to encourage people to get COVID-19 vaccines

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — What better way to calm your fears of getting a shot than to have the First Lady of the United States hold your hand while the needle goes in.

The First Lady and Dr. Anthony Fauci were in Florida on Thursday to encourage people to get vaccinated. They stopped at a vaccination event in Osceola County.

“We will put this behind us, Fauci said. “Vaccination is the solution.”

Miosotis Garcia said she’s been wanting to get vaccinated, but has been a little nervous about it.

Then she realized she would get to meet Dr. Jill Biden.

“It was really nice,” Garcia said. “I didn’t expect that.”

Biden said if she can get the shot, then anyone can.

“Believe me, I’m scared to death of needles and I got mine,” Biden said. “It’s so fast, you don’t even feel it.”

Biden and Fauci said Florida is making good progress, but falling behind with the the president’s goal of getting to herd immunity by the Fourth of July.

“Nearly five out of ten Floridians are fully vaccinated and that’s just not enough,” Biden said. “That’s why I’m here today.”
