Osceola County leaders to discuss ‘tenants bill of rights’ to protect residents

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — On Monday, Osceola County leaders will discuss making new rules to protect people who rent homes in the county.

Officials will warn people about the risk of possible flooding near their homes.

The topic came up after dozens of people lost their homes in Good Samaritan Village during Hurricane Ian.

Under a proposed “tenants bill of rights,” sellers and landlords would be forced to disclose, in writing, any history of flooding.

Under the proposal, if a landlord doesn’t disclose prior flooding, they could be fined up to $5,000.

Commissioners will discuss this at 1:30 p.m. but will not take a vote just yet.
