Paws in the Park event helps shelter animals

ORLANDO, Fla. — Hundreds of four-legged friends are a little closer to finding new homes thanks to the SPCA’s 20th annual Paws in the Park event at Lake Eola.

9 Family Connection is a sponsor of the event, which runs until 3 p.m. Saturday.

All the money raised will help find permanent homes for shelter animals.

Officials said the event typically raises thousands of dollars for the homeless pet population, but it’s still about more than just fundraising.

“It is about awareness and education. We need to understand that pets are part of our family and embrace them together,” an organizer said.
