Police: Lakeland fugitive caught in upstate NY

LAKELAND, Fla. — Authorities say a 57-year-old man wanted in connection with a fatal motorcycle accident in Florida has been caught in his rural upstate New York hometown.

State police say troopers received a tip from someone familiar with David Jackson of the Schoharie County town of Summit that he was spotted at a gas station in neighboring Richmondville, 40 miles west of Albany.

Police say the acquaintance knew that Jackson was wanted on driving under the influence manslaughter charges from a fatal motorcycle accident in Lakeland, Fla., in November 2011. A woman riding with him on his motorcycle died when they collided with a car.

Troopers arrested Jackson Saturday during a traffic stop near his home.

Jackson is being held in jail pending a court date. It couldn't be determined if he had a lawyer.
