Residents on edge after man was carjacked, shot; suspects at large

ORLANDO, Fla. — Authorities said they are searching for two armed carjackers in a crime that stretches across two counties.

Juan Uribe, 19, was carjacked at a KFC drive-through on U.S. 17-92 in Seminole County, and then was taken to Orlando where he was shot Thursday night.

Uribe stated in a police report that he was ordering food when a woman opened his front passenger door and asked him for a ride. Uribe said he declined to give her a ride, but before she closed the door, a man entered through the rear passenger door, holding a gun.

Uribe said that the woman then entered the front passenger seat of his vehicle, and that he was forced at gunpoint to drive to the 800 block of Xavior Avenue.

Uribe said the man demanded his wallet and phone, which he gave up. However, reports stated the man then shot Uribe twice: once in the shoulder, and then in the collarbone.

Uribe was left at the apartment complex as the couple drove off in his car.

Uribe said he went to ask for help at the nearest apartment.

The victim was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in stable condition.

The crime has many residents in the apartment complex concerned for their safety.

“That’s absolutely crazy,” Laura Veglio said. “It makes you feel so unsafe.”

“I don’t go out after dark, once I get home from work I’m in for the night,” neighbor Marriane McKee said.

Detectives are looking for a 2011 silver four-door Toyota, with license plate number: BDC0068. Police described the couple as a fair-skinned Hispanic woman and a black Hispanic man.
