Police: Meth lab found during traffic stop

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — New Smyrna Beach police said a man was arrested after a meth lab was found in the backseat of his truck during a traffic stop.

Officers pulled over 42-year-old Duane Kelley in his Chevy pickup truck around 5:30 p.m. Friday on North Causeway. Kelley was initially arrested for just driving on a suspended license, according to officials.

After he was taken into custody, officers said they located an apparent meth lab in the backseat of the truck. Narcotics detectives and the fire department had to be called to the scene.

Crews took apart the meth lab and turned over the materials to hazmat personnel, officials said.

Kelley was subsequently charged with manufacturing meth, possession of chemicals, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was booked into the Volusia County jail on a $31,000 bond and has not been released.
