Police: Road rage incident leads to driver's arrest in Palm Bay

PALM BAY, Fla. — A Palm Bay woman made a frantic call to 911 Thursday after she exited Interstate 95, where she said she became the object of another driver's anger.

"He cut me off on the highway. And then when I got off the highway, OK? He jammed on his brakes in front of me, on the offramp," the woman said to the 911 dispatcher.

Later that woman told the dispatcher that the angry driver tried to sideswipe her Cadillac off of Palm Bay Road. She then pulled over behind a nearby Denny's restaurant where things escalated.

According to police, the woman stepped out of her vehicle. They said that's when the suspect aimed car at her. They said he then turned around and made a second pass at the woman.

"And he literally tried to hit me. If I didn't move, and I've got a witness, he would have hit me. He kept backing up and coming at me," the woman said in the call.

"When our officers responded out there and were talking to the victim, he shows up again," said Yvonne Martinez of the Palm Bay Police Department.

Police conducted a traffic stop and arrested John Reed, 59.

"Another case of road rage. What triggered it? Who knows," said Martinez.

Reed was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is out of jail on bond.
