Police search for bank robber wearing ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ mask

DELAND, Fla. — Police are searching for a suspect they say robbed a DeLand credit union while wearing a “Sonic the Hedgehog” mask.

According to investigators, a man entered the Florida Credit Union on Woodland Boulevard just after 4 p.m. armed with a hammer and demanded cash.

Witnesses told police during the robbery the man hit the teller’s window several times with the hammer as he demanded money.

Detectives said the robber then ran from the bank after being confronted by a bank employee.

Witnesses told police the robber was wearing a black hoodie, black pants and carrying a black or dark gray backpack and believe the robber was a man based on the tone of his voice.

Police did not say if the robber was able to steal any money or if anyone was injured.

Detectives ask for anyone with information to call the DeLand Police Department at 386-626-7429.
