Police searching for gunman who shot at Brevard Co. home

MELBOURNE, Fla. — Police are searching for a gunman who shot at a Brevard County home while children and their grandmother were inside.

Antoinette Elegele said it sounded like Vietnam.

A bullet grazed her son's head, who was outside during the shooting and was allegedly a target.

"(They) tried to kill my son, but God protected my son," Elegele said. "My grandkids in the house too, my grandkids here."

Police said the shooters fired off multiple rounds when the car came down Pond Street in Melbourne, and kept firing when they turned onto Mill Street.

"A couple guys were working on a car, another vehicle came up from the north end, pulled into the driveway and fired off some rounds of the guys who were working on the car," said Lt. Pete Mercaldo of the Melbourne Police Department.

There are nearly a dozen rifle rounds that shattered the car's windshield and damaged the hood and trunk.

No bullets hit the house, authorities said.

After the shooters rounded the corner, they fired off more shots on the other side of the house -- all of this just feet from children.

Police are chasing several leads Tuesday night, but aren't releasing much information.
