Police: Seminole County man arrested for Facebook threats

SANFORD, Fla. — A Seminole County man is in jail because of a Facebook post.

Joey Duncan is accused of threatening to blow up a hospital.

Police said Duncan was unhappy with his treatment at Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford.

Duncan faces several charges because of a post that police said he put on his Facebook page.

"We take that kind of thing very, very seriously," said Sanford police Capt. Jim McCauliffe.

Police said Duncan was using an alias on Facebook.

According to police, the post said Duncan would set off a bomb in the hospital.

The post went on to say, "Any cops who wanna come arrest me for this statement -- bring it. I'll kill every one of you until you get me."

Police said that after they arrested Duncan at his house he made a confession.

"I believe it was a spontaneous utterance, that he didn't mean it, he was just angry at the time," said McCauliffe.

Duncan's public defender told a judge that no bomb-making materials were found in Duncan's home.

"This is obviously a case where somebody says a lot of stupid things with no action, luckily," the public defender told the judge in court.

The judge set several conditions if Duncan is released from jail. Duncan will have to wear a GPS monitor, and if he is goes within 1,500 feet of the hospital, he'll be arrested.

"I'm also going to order that you not possess any chemicals or weapons used to make bombs," the judge told Duncan.

The judge set Duncan's bond at $5,200.

Duncan's next court appearance will be on Sept. 24.
