Officer shoots, kills armed man outside Titusville bar

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Authorities said they're investigating after an armed man was fatally shot by a Titusville police officer outside of a bar early Sunday morning.

Dispatchers received calls around 2 a.m. indicating shots were being fired outside of a sports bar at 4702 S. Washington Avenue in Titusville, officials said.

"Our 911 operator could actually hear the shots being fired," Police Chief John Lau said.

Lau said they received a description of a car that the shots were being fired from. Officers arrived on scene and located the vehicle in the rear of the bar's parking lot.

"Three occupants were in the car, two complied with the orders from police officers to come out, hands up and they were detained," Lau said.

The third suspect did not cooperate and instead forced an officer to open fire, according to officials.

"He walked toward officers, and pulled a handgun from his waistband and unfortunately deadly force had to be used," Lau said.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released by officials. No witnesses or officers were injured during the incident.

Investigators said the suspect's gun had previously been reported stolen out of Cocoa Beach.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been called in to investigate the officer-involved shooting.
