Police: Surveillance shows burglar's 2-hour attempt to steal ATM

DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. — Police said surveillance camera video taken at the Pirates Cove Hotel in Daytona Beach Shores over the weekend shows convicted felon Adam Schultz attempting to steal an ATM.

"He's obviously pretty desperate and we'd like to find him as soon as we can," said Sgt. Mike Fowler of the Daytona Beach Shores Police Department.

In the video Schultz is first seen using a rope, usually used to pull in struggling swimmers at the hotel pool, to try to take the ATM.

Police said that the rope wasn't long enough so Schultz tied up sheets and an extension cord in an attempt to make a rope long enough to reach his car.

According to police, when Schultz pulled away in the car, the rope snapped and the bolted-down machine didn't budge.

"He did not give up. He was very persistent over the entire time. He sat down, thought about what he was going to do and gave it another try," said Fowler.

Police said Schultz spent two hours trying to take the machine before finally giving up.

According to police, Schultz didn't leave empty-handed. They said he is seen on another camera going into an office and leaving with cash and computers.

Police are still looking for Schultz, who they said is from Holly Hill.
