Prison transport driver solicited inmate, Daytona Beach police say

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Update: Nicholas Aitchison was fired Tuesday night shortly after our story.

A Daytona Beach police prison transport driver is accused of asking a female inmate to perform a sex act on him.

The incident happened just a few miles away from the Volusia County Jail where the man was transporting the woman. Investigators said officer Nicholas Aitchison was supposed to drop an inmate off at the jail, but instead stopped two miles short near the Volusia teacher’s union office and parked there for eight and a half minutes.

Investigators said Aitchison exposed himself and asked the woman for oral sex.

Investigators said they can hear a woman on the van's surveillance video refusing whatever she was being offered, but, the audio is not clear enough to make out the offer. Investigators said they aren't ready to release the video of the incident or comment on the case.

Once they reached the jail, the woman reported the alleged incident to a supervisor.

Daytona Beach police have not said how long Aitchison has been with the department, his current employment status or if he had any infractions on his record.

Aitchison faces charges of battery, incident exposure and false imprisonment.

An internal investigation is underway.
