• Python found crossing West Melbourne parking lot

    Updated:

WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. - Police officers are used to running into criminals, but a West Melbourne officer probably wasn't expecting a late night encounter with a python.

The officer was sitting in his patrol car when he spotted a 5-foot Python slithering across the parking lot outside of a mattress firm on Palm Bay Road Thursday night.

The officer called animal control to haul the snake away.
