Report: ROTC instructor had sex with Lake Howell High School student

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) instructor has been arrested for having sex with a 17-year-old female student at Lake Howell High School, deputies said.

Bryan Shane Teet, 47, faces two counts of unlawful sex with a minor, deputies said.

Deputies were told tipped off Monday that Teet and the girl began a sexual relationship earlier this month that involved two encounters at a family member’s home, investigators said.

"We found out it started earlier this month. It started with personal conversations between the two and escalated to an inappropriate sexual relationship that we understand happened on two occasions," said Bob Kealing, a spokesperson for the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said a forensic analysis of the girl's phone contained sexually explicit conversations between the two.

Teet denied ever having sex with the student, investigators said, but he admitted to investigators the he was with her at the relatives residence and ran out the back patio doors when someone knocked on the front door.

Teet turned himself to deputies Wednesday evening and he has posted his $40,000 bail.

Investigators would only say the victim is between 16 and 17 years old.

Michael Lawrence, a spokesperson for the Seminole County School District said Teet has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the school investigation and deputy investigation. He has worked for the district since 2015.

"Teachers and people in positions of trust need to know the line, the majority of them do, but in a case like this when you cross that line, you are going to go to jail," Kealing said.

Richard Hornsby, Teet's lawyer said in a statement, "Mr. Teet is a decorated veteran, with an impeccable record of service to his country and this state. I will work expeditiously to defend him against the charges in this case and bring the case to a successful conclusion."
