VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — This Memorial Day weekend, extra lifeguard towers will be positioned all along the 47 miles of Volusia County's coast in anticipation of one of the busiest beach weekends of the year.
Due to COVID-19 social distancing restrictions, cars will have to park at one of the posts measured out in the sand, and people will be asked to stay in groups of six or fewer and stay 10 feet apart from other groups.
Beach officials said visitors should also watch out for some big rip currents over the holiday weekend.
Beach safety said they had to help 84 people from the waves Thursday.
The most important thing beach safety officials said people can do is swim in front of a lifeguard.
