Saint Cloud H.S. assistant football coach jailed on drug charges

An assistant Osceola County football coach is in jail on drug charges Monday.

Donnie Jennert, the assistant varsity football coach for Saint Cloud High School, is in jail for failing to appear in court and probation violations, according to online records.

Jennert was booked into the Orange County Jail around 11 a.m.

He was initially arrested in Osceola County last month on outstanding warrants related to the possession of amphetamine.

Eyewitness News dug into his past and learned the assistant coach had other run-ins with the law, including an arrest in early 2012 for disorderly intoxication and aggravated assault.

Sunday, just hours before his latest arrest, he tweeted "I'm stepping away from coaching high school for a while."

He said he'll no longer be with the team but hopes to watch some of their games this season.

Before his coaching stint, Jennert played three seasons on the Iowa State football team, then transferred to Lindenwood University in Missouri.

Eyewitness News reached out to an Osceola County school district spokeswoman for comment on the story but didn't hear back from her Monday night.
