Sanford bank robbers told teller they had a bomb

SANFORD, Fla. — Sanford police arrested two men they said robbed a bank by threatening the tellers, saying they had a bomb.

The robbery happened Friday afternoon at the Regions Bank on Rinehart Road and SR-46.

After the robbery, the suspects fled, prompting a police chase.

Investigators said the men rammed a civilian vehicle and slammed into a police cruiser during the chase before crashing. Both suspects were taken into custody near Monroe Road.

Authorities didn’t know if the men actually had explosives, so they called the bomb squad as a precaution. The crews are still at the scene investigating.

No other details have been released.
