Sanford teen continues to recover as police investigate 3 drive-by shootings

A Sanford teenager who was shot in the head in a drive-by shooting continues to recover in the hospital.
There have been no arrests in the case, which has become one of three recent shootings Sanford police are investigating.
The shooting happened Sunday night on Little Fox Avenue near Sanford Avenue and Lake Mary Boulevard.
Police said someone fired at the home and one of the bullets struck the teenager as he slept.
It’s too early to know if the shootings are related.
The family of Shaun Merrill, 16, said he continues to improve.
At least a half-dozen bullets riddled the home and the car in the driveway.
Sanford police are reviewing surveillance video and said it’s still unclear who was the intended target.

Police also said it was the third time since Saturday night that officers were called to a drive-by shooting.
The first one happened about 3 miles north of where Merrill was shot.
On Sunday afternoon, another shooting was reported close by on Sterling Court.
Resident Calvin Donaldson heard the gunshots from both incidents.
He said the shootings hit too close to home; his son was killed six years ago when a bullet went through his window during a drive-by.
“The irony of the whole thing is the kid who killed my son sent a message back to us that it wasn’t his intent to kill my son,” said Donaldson.
He said he believes what happened to his son will happen to somebody else if people don’t come forward to police with information.
