2 students found with guns on Osceola High School campus

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Channel 9 learned two guns were found on the Osceola High School campus.

One of the weapons was found on Sept. 28, and the other was discovered Wednesday.

School district officials said the concealed guns were not loaded, and the cases involved two different students.

Police said in the September incident, a teenage boy had a gun in his backpack, because someone wanted to fight his cousin.

It was reported that he flashed the gun at someone on a school bus the week before.

Officials believe the teenager stole the gun from a relative.

On Wednesday, a school resource officer confronted a student in the courtyard after a classmate reported seeing the gun.

The student told the deputy that he had the gun, because he was threatened on a text message app called Kik.

Both students were arrested and suspended.

Some students at the school said they were unaware of the incidents.

“I heard it after school. My mom told me. I was kind of shocked,” said student Jonathan Noda.

“It’s kind of weird having that happen at our school and now knowing about it,” said student Dakota Orengo.

Officials said no students were threatened, and the situations were quickly resolved.

The school principal sent a message to parents that said, in part, "Our administration, faculty, and staff will continue to work hard to maintain a learning environment that is supportive of student achievement and student safety. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation."
