Investigation underway after seaplane crashes in Lake Beresford

DELAND, Fla. — A seaplane crashed in Lake Beresford in DeLand just before 5 p.m. Friday.

The pilot was picked up by a boater and was on land by the time authorities arrived.

He was the only person on the plane and was not injured when it crashed.

Florida Fish and Wildlife and the Federal Aviation Authority are investigating.

“We are working with the FAA and we’re conducting it as a boating accident because technically it was a vessel when it touched down on the water,” an FWC official said.

FWC has not said exactly what led the plane to capsize as the pilot landed.

There were strong wind gusts in DeLand at the time of the crash, but authorities have not labeled that as the cause.

Wind will however, be a factor in the investigation.

Crews removed the plane and it's going to be turned over to a salvage company.

Officers haven’t said if the pilot will be cited.
