Search still on for driver in New Smyrna Beach hit-and-run crash

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — A woman seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident in New Smyrna Beach earlier this month is out of the hospital and moved to a rehabilitation facility Friday.

Eyewitness News spoke with with Shariema Smith days after the accident.

She said she was riding her bike on State Road 44 when a truck hit her and threw her 30 feet.

Smith said she still has a halo on her head and she can't use her legs.

She said she will be in rehab for at least three weeks.

Police are still looking for the driver responsible for the Sept. 6 hit-and-run.

Smith said the driver stopped to ask if she was OK, then took off.
