Seminole County tax collector bans commissioner from office

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Seminole County’s tax collector has banned a commissioner from all tax collector offices.

Joel Greenberg served the notice Tuesday morning to Commissioner Brenda Carey during the commissioner meeting.

"If Commissioner Carey does step foot in a tax collector premise or in our office, the sheriff will be noticed. She will possibly be detained," Greenberg said.

Greenberg told Channel 9's Jeff Levkulich that Carey acted inappropriately toward one of his employees at the tax collector's office Monday.

Greenberg said Carey went into his office to conduct personal business, but started acting irate toward one of his employees.

Carey told Levkulich that the accusations are not true.

"Anybody that wants to know about his behavior should watch the budget workshop we had the other day," Carey said.

Greenberg and commissioners have been at odds for weeks over several items, most recently accusations Greenberg has created new positions that aren't necessary.

Commissioners are expecting about $3.5 million less this year from the tax collector's office.

Greenberg said he would lift the trespass if Carey makes a public apology.
