Central Florida couple says COVID-19 vaccines gave them their life back

CASSELBERRY, Fla. — So far, Seminole County has distributed 1,400 COVID-19 booster shots at four clinics since they began last week.

One Longwood couple said they received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine back in December last year and just received their booster shot.

Channel 9 spoke with them about how the shots have helped them get back to the way of life before COVID-19.

Ken and Joy Davis were one of the first in the state to get the vaccine and even after they were fully vaccinated, it took them some time to do what they love most – traveling.

Ken Davis said his wife Joy got her booster shot at a Publix in Longwood on Friday.

“With this new booster shot coming out, we thought it would make a lot of sense to continue to do that because we want to continue to live our life,” Ken Davis said.

After receiving her COVID-19 vaccine, Joy Davis said, “This has been the best thing that has happened to us in 2020. We haven’t seen our family; they all live up north for over a year now and this is going to give us the opportunity to travel once again.”

But even after the couple had been fully vaccinated, they were still hesitant to venture out.

Joy Davis said the booster shot for them means not only being able to continue doing what they love, but it also means they feel an added layer of protection.

As for side effects from the booster, the couple said they just had a sore arm.

The next booster shot clinic for Seminole County will be held Saturday at the Casselberry Recreation Center. It is by appointment only.
