Seminole County small business relief site crashes after hundreds of applicants

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Small business owners who were affected by COVID-19 logged on to apply for a new round of CARES Act money on Wednesday.

However, the website couldn’t handle the more than 700 people who logged on at once at 10 a.m., and the system crashed.

The Seminole CARES Small Business Grant was created using $10 million to help small businesses hit hard by the coronavirus shutdown.

Depending on how many employees are on the payroll, businesses could receive between $5,000 and $15,000.

Eligible businesses shouldn’t be worried if they couldn’t log in right at 10 p.m. Grants are on a first-come, first-serve basis but officials said they want to ensure businesses get what they need, so if additional funding has to be considered for the program, they will discuss it after all the applications are received
