Small homes a big draw in Oviedo

David Howes decided less was more when he started developing new homes.

New “small homes” -- not quite large homes, not quite tiny homes -- that Howes is developing along State Road 419 and Avenue A are less than 1,000 square feet and made for those looking to scale down or start out.

There are about six homes right now. Some were spoken for before they were completed.

“I think people are looking for that ability to have a place where they can call home, as opposed to be a part of a bigger apartment complex,” said Howes, who has been involved in real estate for about seven years. Rent for a one-bedroom home is about $950, and a two-bedroom home is $1,200.

“Between all the comments I get from the different tenants I have, this middle market between $800 and $1,500 a month is underserved, and so I felt like this would be a good idea,” Howes said.
