Single mom spends 28 days in jail after being wrongly arrested twice

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. — After admitting they'd arrested the wrong woman twice, the Clay County Sheriff's Office said it finally had the right woman behind bars.

Deputies arrested Ashley Odessa Chiasson, 31, Thursday on grand theft and fraud charges.

Earlier this year, the sheriff's office extradited Ashley Nicole Chiasson, 28, from Chalmette, Louisiana, and jailed her twice on separate charges.

According to reports, the two women differed in description by 5 inches and 20 pounds.

An attorney for the wrongly accused Chiasson sent the sheriff a letter of intent to sue on Monday.

The single mother spent 28 days in jail in January. Officials released her when they realized their mistake.

She had been arrested on separate charges during a hearing to drop the original charges.

Ashley O. Chiasson remains in the Clay County Jail.
