• Man found dead after barricading himself inside Fruitland Park home, deputies say

FRUITLAND PARK, Fla. - A man was found dead of an "apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound" Sunday after a standoff with deputies at a home in Fruitland Park, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said

Lake County Deputies said they responded to a domestic violence incident in Fruitland Park. Deputies said they met with a victim at a different location. The victim said she had been battered by her husband, deputies said.

Deputies then responded to a different home on Sunnyside Drive and Lake Unity Road, where they talked to a man at the front gate. Authorities said the man began yelling at the deputies and ran toward his home and pulled a handgun from his waistband while looking back toward the deputies.

The man barricaded himself alone inside the home, deputies said. After trying to make contact with the man for several hours, authorities said they found him dead inside the home.

The man's name has not been released.
