Police: Taser discharge mistaken for gunshot causes Winter Park Publix evacuation

An incident that started as a traffic stop ended at a Winter Park Publix parking lot, where officers said they deployed a stun gun on the driver when he got out of his vehicle and tried to run.
The incident happened just before 5 p.m. in the area of Claracona Ocoee and Pine Hills roads, police said.
The sound the Taser made caused a panic at the Publix when an employee mistook it for a gunshot and yelled into the store that someone was shooting, investigators said.

WINTER PARK, Fla. — The driver of the car, Willie Henry, 30, never entered the store, but the Publix was cleared to make sure there were no other suspects, the Orlando Police Department officials said.

Ron Zcarnik was shopping at the Publix a short time after police cleared the scene and said it was a little frightening to think about how chaotic things must have been.
"It's usually very crowded here. The parking lot is full a lot of times," he said. "I assume that there were a lot of people here at rush hour. Pretty scary."

Henry was booked into the Orange County Jail on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, resisting an officer without violence and possession of cannabis.
