Teachers arrested after son calls cops during escalated argument

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Two teachers were arrested on charges of domestic violence, said the Polk County Sheriff's Office Monday.

The couple's 16-year-old son called 911 on Saturday when his mother and father's argument escalated.

Authorities said Timothy Martin, 47, and Donna Martin, 51, were arguing in the living room of their home when Donna Martin tried to slap Timothy Martin in the face. Timothy Martin blocked the strike with his arm and was not injured.

Timothy Martin then armed himself with a handgun and threatened to kill his wife, authorities said. He also spat on her face twice.

Timothy Martin was charged with domestic violence-battery and Donna Martin was charged with domestic violence-battery and domestic violence aggravated assault, said officers.

Timothy Martin told deputies he was a teacher at Ridge Career Center in Winter Haven and Donna Martin told deputies she was a teacher at Polk Avenue Elementary in Lake Wales.

The couple was booked into the Polk County Jail, but has since bonded out.
