Teen accused of fatal shooting turns self in

OCALA, Fla. — An Ocala teenager who fatally shot a 40-year-old man has turned himself in on lesser charges after authorities decided not to prosecute him under the "stand your ground" law.

The Ocala Star-Banner reports the teen surrendered at a juvenile facility around 4 p.m. Thursday. He's being charged with carrying a concealed firearm and possession of a firearm by a minor.

Police say the teenager shot Julius Jones in the head on July 5 after he had a verbal confrontation with the teen and two friends as they walked along a road. They say he stopped his car and approached the teenagers with a big stick. That's when he shot Jones.

The State Attorney's Office ruled the teenager's actions falls under the "stand your ground" law.
