Teen killed after tractor-trailer clips car on U.S. 1 in Brevard County

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A 16-year-old Cocoa boy was killed late Wednesday when the car he was riding in was hit by a tractor-trailer on U.S. 1 in Brevard County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Kentral Lamont Welch was a passenger in a 2010 Ford Fusion driving south on U.S. 1 near Friendship Place at 9:55 p.m., when a tractor-trailer started to change lanes in front of the car, troopers said.

The driver of the Fusion, Hayden Chandler Seymour, 16, of Rockledge, tried to avoid the truck by pulling into the construction area running along the roadway’s inside lane.

The back of the tractor-trailer, driven by Angel Rivera Colon, 23, of Kissimmee, clipped the car, causing it to crash, investigators said.

Welch was killed in the crash and Seymour received minor injuries.

Colon was not injured in the crash.

Charges are pending in the case, FHP said.
