Authorities: Men kidnapped mentally disabled teen, sexually battered her

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla — Two men were arrested on charges of kidnapping and sexually battery of a mentally disabled tourist at a Volusia County beach Saturday near Sunsplash Park.

Derick Bullits, 40, and Finest Martin, 23, were arrested at a hotel in Orlando late Monday night, authorities said.

According to the arrest reports, they pushed the teen victim into the back seat of their truck in Daytona Beach and assaulted her.

Investigators said the suspects then dropped the victim off at a Subway in uptown Altamonte Springs near Altamonte Springs Mall.

The victim helped investigators by showing them the hotel the men took her to. Police said both were still there at the time and were taken into custody.

The victim's mother believes the men targeted her daughter because she has the mental capacity of an 8-year-old.

"It's obvious she is child-like, and they totally took advantage of a child," the victim's mother told Channel 9. "This could happen to anyone."
