Thief steals Olympic gold medalist rings from Altamonte apartment

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — Police are trying to find the person who stole a central Florida Olympian's priceless possessions.

Deedee Trotter reported that someone broke into her Altamonte apartment at Altamira Place and stole several of her prized Olympic items, which included two gold medalist rings.

Investigators think the thief who stole the items could have a hard time cashing in on them.

Other stolen items included an Olympic-themed pair of Beats By Dre headphones. On the inside of the headphones, "Land of the Free" and "Home of the Brave" are printed.

"So they're very unique. It's not something that you'd see every day," said Officer Rob Pelton.

Police said the thief may have inadvertently stolen the priceless possessions. They said Trotter's apartment was the third residential burglary in the last five days.

"It doesn't look like it was a specific target. Unfortunately it just looks like something that was taken," said Pelton.

Anyone with information that could help recover the stolen items is asked to call CrimeLine.
