Train hits truck loaded with watermelons in Sumter County

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — The drive of a tractor-trailer avoided injury when a train crashed into his truck loaded with watermelons Wednesday evening.

According to Florida Highway Patrol troopers, the truck, driven by Vincent Vuong Tran, of Garden Grove, California, stalled on the railroad tracks at County Road 104 and U.S. 301 around 7 p.m.

Troopers said the train's engineer saw the trailer on the tracks and attempted to stop the CSX train, which was towing 130 cars.

The train slammed into the trailer, destroying it and the load of watermelons.

There were no injuries reported in the accident, according to trooper.

Troopers said charges are pending.
