Two Umatilla High School students arrested, accused of having gun on campus

UMATILLA, Fla. — Two high school students in Lake County were accused of having a gun on campus Tuesday.

Deputies said a school resource deputy received information from a student that Chance Bass, 17, brought a gun to Umatilla High School.

The deputy confronted Bass, who said he had the gun in his jacket in the classroom, and that it had been given to him by another student, Tyler Trapp, 16.

Trapp apparently wanted Bass to repair the weapon.

The deputy confiscated the .25 caliber handgun, which wasn’t loaded.

Bass and Trapp were arrested on charges of possession of a firearm on school grounds and transported to the Lake County Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing.
