Universal Orlando to build new water park on land near I-4

ORLANDO, Fla. — Eyewitness News found out that Universal Orlando has filed paperwork indicating it plans to build a new water park on a piece of land near Interstate 4.

Universal Orlando already owns the popular Wet N' Wild water park, but a new water park is now in the works.

The site of the water park will be a 25-acre piece of land that sits between I-4 and Turkey Lake Road. Documents filed by Universal Orlando reveal that the new park will be immediately south of the Cabana Bay Resort.

Tourists who are visiting the theme parks told Channel 9 they'll be back for the new water park.

"I'm a kid myself, at least at heart. The older I get, the more fun it is," Katy Sanchez said.

"I can't wait. I'm excited," Jordan Rivers said.

The documents submitted by Universal Orlando are a stormwater report and engineering assessment of the land. The plans indicate that the main attraction at the water park will feature a tall volcano with multiple slides.

"It gives me another reason to come back to Florida," Sanchez said.

It's unclear when construction will begin and Universal has not said when the water park could open.
