Video shows struggle between man, officers in downtown Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. — Dramatic footage shows a tussle between two Orlando police officers and a man they were trying to arrest on drug charges. Seconds later, the video shows the man speed away in a car, dragging the officers with him.

The felon was arrested after crashing into a golf-cart taxi on South Orange Avenue.

Police said the tussle happened early Friday when they stopped 27-year-old Antwan Jordan after smelling marijuana coming from his car.

While searching the man, the officers said they found 9 grams of cocaine in his pocket.

The cellphone footage, captured by a bystander, shows Jordan sped away after slipping from the grip of the bicycle officers and knocking them down.

Jordan, who was previously convicted of four felonies, had two warrants out for his arrest, police said.

Investigators said they found a gun and a drug scale underneath the driver’s seat of Jordan’s vehicle.

Officers said Jordan crashed into golf cart near Lake Lucerne, seriously injuring the vehicle’s driver. The driver was hospitalized but is expected to survive.

“It's really sad that officers can't do their job appropriately due to all this negativity that's going around,” downtown patron Erica Bass said. “It’s just really sad and scary that these guys really could have lost their lives and got run over.”

Jordan was arrested near Orlando Regional Medical Center after plowing into a stop sign, officials said.

“They're human beings just like the rest of us,” downtown patron Felix Rosario said of the officers. “They do have families. They do need to go home just like everybody else from their job. It's a job and people forget about that.”

The officers were banged up but were otherwise uninjured.

Jordan was charged with aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, aggravated fleeing flee/eluding police, leaving the scene of a crash with injuries, possession of cocaine with the intent to sell, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and resisting arrest.

He was being held without bond at the Orange County Jail.
